Where the green transition creates realistic enterprise and employment openings for young Ghanaian entrepreneurs.
Beyond the headline promise
Green-jobs projections are often presented at national scale and in aggregate, which is of little use to a 26-year-old deciding what to start next month. The practical question is narrower: which green activities have paying customers today, modest capital requirements, and skills that can be acquired within a year?

- Certification pathways that are expensive or unavailable outside major cities.

- Fragmented demand that makes customer acquisition costly.
- Limited mentorship from operators already in the sector.
Policy and programme recommendations
- Fund recognised technical certification regionally, not only in Accra and Kumasi.
- Aggregate demand through public and institutional procurement set-asides.
- Provide short-cycle working capital rather than long-term equipment loans.
- Pair every cohort with practising operators for a minimum twelve-month mentorship.
The green transition will create youth enterprise at scale only where training, demand aggregation and short-cycle finance are designed together. Delivered separately, each produces graduates without customers or customers without suppliers.
